Caleb Williams Fined Again for Cleats Violation
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been fined by the NFL for the second time due to his choice of footwear, according to ESPN. The latest fine amounts to $23,882, issued on Thursday for wearing Caddix cleats during the Week 7 victory against New England.
This fine is categorized as a uniform violation, as the NFL only permits footwear from specific brands, including Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour. Previously, Williams received an $11,941 fine for a similar violation in Week 6. Despite the penalties, he has expressed his intention to continue wearing the cleats without complying with the league's requirement to cover the Caddix logo.
Williams, 24, has appealed his earlier fine, and Caddix has stated they will cover the cost if the fine is upheld. The founder of Caddix emphasized the safety benefits of the cleats, asserting they are among the safest options available for players. Williams has highlighted his choice of the brand as part of his commitment to injury prevention, noting that many players in the league also wear them. The Bears are set to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night.
