Caleb Williams Fined Again for Wearing Caddix Cleats
Caleb Williams, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, has been fined by the NFL for a second time for wearing Caddix cleats that display a visible logo during a game. The latest fine amounts to $23,882, following the team's 30-24 victory over the New England Patriots in Week 7.
This penalty is double the $11,941 fine he received for the same violation in Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons, bringing his total fines to $35,823. The NFL has partnerships with Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour, and while players can wear other brands, logos from non-partner companies must be concealed on game day. Williams has not complied with this rule regarding his black Caddix cleats, which feature a prominent gray logo.
Williams has appealed the initial fine, and the appeal process remains active. He has expressed his intention to continue wearing the cleats without covering the logo, including in the upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks. The cleats, designed to reduce stress on joints, have been beneficial for him, according to Williams. Caddix's founder has stated that the company will cover any fines if the appeals are unsuccessful, and fellow NFL player Joe Flacco has also offered to pay any future fines for Williams.
