Calendar Conflicts May Impact Marco Wittmann's DTM Participation
Marco Wittmann, a two-time champion and BMW title contender, may have to leave the DTM due to scheduling conflicts with the IMSA series and the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The 2027 DTM calendar currently overlaps with significant IMSA events, including the season finale at Hockenheim coinciding with the Petit Le Mans race.
Wittmann, who has participated in 228 DTM races without missing any, expressed concerns about the impact of these clashes on his career and the series. He is in discussions with BMW regarding his future, emphasizing the need for the DTM to reconsider its schedule to avoid losing prominent drivers.
Other drivers, including Jules Gounon from Mercedes, are also affected by similar calendar conflicts. The ADAC, which oversees the DTM, acknowledged the challenges in creating a schedule that accommodates all parties and stated that they would review the situation, although solutions may be complex.
