California Lifeguards to Be Recognized as First Responders

California lifeguards are set to be officially recognized as first responders following the passage of Senate Concurrent Resolution 192. This resolution acknowledges the critical role lifeguards play in emergency situations, public safety, and drowning prevention.

The resolution was introduced in July and swiftly moved through the legislative process, receiving approval from the State Assembly on August 19. It will take effect once signed by the Secretary of State.

While this recognition is seen as a positive step, it is important to note that the resolution is not legally binding.
