Call for Memorial to Sir Ken Dodd in Knotty Ash
A close friend of the late comedian Sir Ken Dodd is urging for a permanent memorial to be established in Knotty Ash, the area he called home. John Martin, a comedian from Bootle, proposed either a statue of Dodd or signage welcoming visitors to the Liverpool suburb.
Sir Ken Dodd, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 90, spent his entire life on Thomas Lane and often incorporated references to Knotty Ash in his performances. Martin, who collaborated with Dodd for over thirty years, emphasized the comedian's significant connection to the area, noting that Dodd's comedic tales, including those about the Diddymen, made Knotty Ash well-known.
As Dodd would have turned 100 next year, Martin believes this is an opportune moment to honor him with a tribute. He has initiated a petition that has garnered around 500 signatures and is seeking recognition from Liverpool City Council for Dodd's contributions to the community.
