Cam Skattebo Defends Running Style After Rare Penalty
Cam Skattebo, the running back for the New York Giants, faced a rare penalty during the team's 26-21 overtime victory against the Houston Texans. He was flagged for unnecessary roughness in the first quarter for lowering his helmet to initiate contact, a call that surprised many as such penalties are infrequently enforced against offensive players.
This penalty marked the first time in Skattebo's career that he was penalized for this action, despite his aggressive running style. Prior to this incident, only four penalties had been called for helmet lowering throughout the season, with Skattebo being the only offensive player penalized.
After the game, Skattebo expressed his intention to continue playing his way, indicating that he would not alter his approach despite the risk of further penalties. He acknowledged that his style might lead to fines or flags but remained resolute in his decision to run aggressively. However, this stance may put him at odds with Giants coach John Harbaugh, especially if it results in additional penalties that could hinder the team's performance.
