Canada Adjusts Roster for Upcoming FIBA World Cup Qualifiers
Canada is preparing for its second round of FIBA World Cup qualifiers, having achieved a perfect 6-0 record so far. The team will face Panama on Thursday and Argentina on Monday, with several key players absent from the lineup, as announced by general manager Rowan Barrett.
Notable absentees include Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, RJ Barrett, Dillon Brooks, and Andrew Nembhard. Instead, the team will be led by NBA players Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Luguentz Dort, and Kelly Olynyk. While Barrett and Bennedict Mathurin will join as ambassadors, they will not participate in the games. Additionally, young talents Leonard Miller and Kyshawn George will also miss this window.
Barrett revealed that Shaedon Sharpe was expected to play but will be sidelined for at least six months due to a meniscus injury. Canada remains at the top of its group after strong performances against Puerto Rico and Jamaica in July. The upcoming matches against Argentina and Uruguay are anticipated to be more challenging.
