Cardinals Acquire Everson Pereira from White Sox

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the acquisition of outfielder Everson Pereira, who was claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox designated Pereira for assignment on the deadline day after acquiring Joey Bart from Atlanta.

Pereira, 25, originally signed with the Yankees as an international player from Venezuela. While he demonstrated significant power potential in the minors, he has struggled in the major leagues, recording a .172 batting average with a high strikeout rate. Despite these challenges, he has excelled in Triple-A, hitting 43 home runs with a .269 average over 738 plate appearances.

The Cardinals, currently four games behind a playoff spot, are looking towards the future following a trade that opened up an outfield position. With Pereira out of options, he will need a spot on the active roster, and his playing time will be determined as the team navigates its roster adjustments.
