Cardinals Manager Ejected After Hat Incident with Umpire

Oliver Marmol, the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, was ejected during a game on Friday night after an unusual incident involving rookie pitcher Hancel Rincon's hat. The confrontation occurred in the sixth inning while the Cardinals were leading 4-1.

After sending Rincon to the mound, umpire Doug Eddings raised concerns about the way Rincon's hat was positioned. Although Rincon adjusted his hat, Marmol became upset with Eddings for addressing the issue. Despite a pitching change and a subsequent pitch-clock violation for another player, Marmol continued to argue with Eddings, leading to his ejection.

Postgame, Marmol expressed his frustration, stating that it was embarrassing for Eddings to focus on Rincon's hat during his debut. Eddings clarified that there are no official MLB rules governing hat positioning, but he felt it was appropriate to address the matter. Following the incident, the Cardinals lost their lead but ultimately secured a 7-6 victory over the Rockies with a late three-run home run from Ivan Herrera.
