Cardinals Place Andre Pallante on Injured List Due to Elbow Inflammation
The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that right-hander Andre Pallante has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to elbow inflammation, effective retroactively from August 18. In his absence, Ryan Fernandez has been recalled to the roster, and Quinn Mathews will take Pallante's spot in the rotation for the upcoming game on Saturday.
This injury marks the first significant issue for the Cardinals' rotation this season and the first in nearly two years, with the last arm-related injury occurring to Sonny Gray in September 2024. Pallante has made 24 starts this year, maintaining a 3.57 earned run average.
Despite the injury, the Cardinals remain in contention for a playoff spot, currently just 2.5 games out. Mathews, who has limited experience in the majors, will aim to perform effectively in Pallante's absence, although his statistics indicate a different pitching style.
