Cardinals Place Masyn Winn on Injured List, Recall Nolan Gorman
The St. Louis Cardinals are set to place shortstop Masyn Winn on the 10-day injured list due to a left thumb injury, while recalling Nolan Gorman from Triple-A Memphis.
Winn has not played since August 21 after injuring his thumb during a slide in a game against Cincinnati. Although initial x-rays were negative, he has experienced significant pain while swinging, prompting the team to seek further evaluation through an MRI. The Cardinals expect Winn to need at least a week for recovery, with a potential return date in early September.
In the meantime, JJ Wetherholt has shifted back to shortstop, while José Fermín and Ramón Urías may share duties at second base. Gorman returns to the major league roster after spending two and a half months in the minors, where he struggled with a high strikeout rate and a low batting average.
