Cardinals to Promote Hancel Rincon as Rosters Expand

The St. Louis Cardinals are set to promote pitching prospect Hancel Rincon when active rosters expand. This decision comes after the team released Caleb Ferguson over the weekend, creating an opening on the 40-man roster.

Rincon, 24, has spent eight seasons in the minor leagues and will make his major league debut after a strong performance with Triple-A Memphis, where he recorded a 4.04 ERA over 71 1/3 innings in 41 appearances. He has struck out approximately 30% of batters faced, although he has also issued walks to 10.4% of hitters.

In addition to Rincon, catching prospect Leo Bernal will also be promoted. The Cardinals are expected to make another roster move, as they recently optioned catcher Jimmy Crooks, leaving room for another position player. Masyn Winn could return from the injured list, while outfielder Victor Scott II is another option for promotion.
