Cardinals Trade Lars Nootbaar to Diamondbacks

The St. Louis Cardinals have finalized a trade sending outfielder Lars Nootbaar to the Arizona Diamondbacks, as reported on Monday by various sources.

In exchange, the Cardinals are receiving right-hander Daniel Eagen and infielder Ruben Santana, among others, although the identity of the third player has not been disclosed. Eagen, 23, is recognized as the fifth-ranked prospect in the Diamondbacks organization according to MLB Pipeline.

Nootbaar, 28, is a versatile left-handed hitter who can play all three outfield positions. He has a batting average of .234, with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 48 games this season. After recovering from heel surgery that sidelined him for the first two months of the season, he returned to play on June 5, achieving a .306 average in his first month back before experiencing a drop in performance in July. Over his six seasons with the Cardinals, Nootbaar has accumulated a .241 average, 61 home runs, and 210 RBIs in 575 games. He is under club control until 2027, providing the Diamondbacks with a long-term asset as they aim for a National League wild-card spot.
