Carla Ward Focused on World Cup Qualification for Republic of Ireland
Carla Ward, the manager of the Republic of Ireland women's football team, is concentrating on World Cup qualification despite speculation about her potential return to the Women's Super League. The team is set to face Kazakhstan in a play-off, with the possibility of a two-legged final against Belgium or Poland if they advance.
Ward, who took over from Eileen Gleeson in January 2025, expressed her dedication to leading the Republic to the World Cup, stating that her focus is solely on the upcoming matches. The Republic of Ireland made history by qualifying for the World Cup in 2023 but did not progress beyond the group stage.
The first leg against Kazakhstan will take place on October 9 at the Astana Arena, followed by a return match in Cork. Ward acknowledged the challenges posed by injuries and suspensions within her squad but remains confident in the team's ability to perform at a high level.
