Carlos Mendoza Joins Phillies as Third Base and Infield Coach
Carlos Mendoza has been hired as the Philadelphia Phillies' third base and infield coach, following his recent firing from the New York Mets.
The announcement was made by Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, coinciding with a series of coaching changes after Don Mattingly signed a two-year contract to continue as manager. Mendoza, who is 46 years old, previously managed the Mets for two-and-a-half years, leading them to the NLCS in 2024 but facing challenges in the following seasons.
His tenure with the Mets ended after a disappointing start to the 2025 season, which included a 12-game losing streak in April and injuries to key players. Mendoza was dismissed on June 25 after a loss to the Cubs, and Andy Green took over as interim manager before being named the permanent replacement.
