Carlos Prates Responds to Makhachev's Manager's Claims
Carlos Prates has countered assertions made by Islam Makhachev's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, who claimed that welterweight contenders would not contribute to the champion's legacy. Prates is set to fight Michael Morales for the interim UFC welterweight title at UFC 336 on January 30 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, following Makhachev's decision to decline a fight in January.
Prates has publicly sought a title shot and accused Makhachev of avoiding competition. In response to Abdelaziz's comments about Makhachev fighting for passion rather than legacy, Prates argued that a passionate champion would accept a fight with the top contender. He emphasized that he intends to impact Makhachev's legacy positively while enhancing his own reputation.
Abdelaziz previously stated that Makhachev is among the greatest fighters of his generation and suggested that current contenders would not add to his accomplishments. He also warned challengers to be cautious in their remarks to avoid negative perceptions against the champion.
