Carlton Acquires Lachie Whitfield from GWS Giants in Trade
Lachie Whitfield has officially become a player for Carlton following a trade with GWS Giants as the 2026 deadline nears.
In the deal, Whitfield, along with Picks 31 and 50, moves to Ikon Park, while GWS receives Picks 25, 26, and a third-round pick for 2028. Whitfield has signed a three-year contract that extends until the end of 2029.
GWS aimed to enhance its draft position for 2026 and had hoped to acquire one of Carlton's first-round picks. Although Carlton proposed a future first-round pick tied to Sydney, it was ultimately not accepted. Whitfield, who has played 276 games since being drafted first overall in 2012, reunites with former teammate Nick Haynes at Carlton. The club now holds Picks 13, 18, 31, 50, 61, 72, and 90 after recent trades and acquisitions.
