Case Keenum Named Starting QB Against Jets Despite Limited Play
In a surprising move, Bears coach Ben Johnson officially named Case Keenum as the starting quarterback for the game against the Jets, even though he only participated in one snap during the match. Tyson Bagent was also on the field, lined up as a wide receiver for that play.
Keenum's single snap was enough for him to be credited with the start and the victory, as confirmed by an NFL spokesman following clarification from the Elias Sports Bureau. Johnson remarked positively on Keenum's record after the Bears secured a 23-12 win.
The NFL rules state that the player who takes the first snap is considered the starter, regardless of the presence of other quarterbacks on the field. Keenum's career record now stands at 32-36, with a 2-0 record as the Bears' starter this season, while Bagent holds a 2-2 record. Bagent is anticipated to start in the upcoming game against the Packers.
