Casey Lawrence Released by Mariners After Opting Out
Casey Lawrence, a veteran right-handed pitcher, has been released by the Mariners after opting out of his minor league deal. He is now a free agent.
The 38-year-old has played in parts of five major league seasons, with his most recent appearances in 2025 for the Jays and Mariners. Despite a career ERA of 6.42 over 141 2/3 innings, he posted a 4.08 ERA in 17 2/3 innings last year and has been a reliable pitcher in the Mariners' Triple-A team this season.
Lawrence leads the minor leagues with 131 2/3 innings pitched this year, starting 23 games with a 4.37 ERA. He has demonstrated strong command and ground-ball abilities, although he has a low strikeout rate. With several prospects rising through the ranks, Lawrence has not been called up to the majors this season. Teams seeking rotation depth or bullpen length may consider him as a potential addition.
