Cason Wallace Secures Five-Year Extension with Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder have finalized a five-year rookie scale extension with guard Cason Wallace, valued at $139 million. This agreement comes just before the deadline for rookie scale extensions and marks a significant commitment to the 22-year-old player.
Wallace, known for his defensive skills, has established himself as a top perimeter defender, leading the NBA in total steals and deflections last season. Although his scoring average saw a slight increase, he was recognized for his defensive prowess by being named to the All-Defensive second team and finishing seventh in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
With this extension, all five Thunder starters are now secured under multiyear contracts. Wallace's deal also prevents him from entering free agency, where he would have attracted considerable interest. He is the sixth player from the 2023 draft class to sign a rookie scale extension ahead of the deadline.
