Casper Ruud Withdraws from US Open Due to Back Injury

Casper Ruud, the No. 19 seed, has withdrawn from the US Open shortly after the tournament commenced, due to a back injury.

Ruud had previously shown signs of health issues, having retired during his opening match at the Cincinnati Open earlier this month. Despite participating in the mixed doubles event at the U.S. Open Fan Week, he experienced some limitations. He announced his withdrawal on Instagram, expressing disappointment but emphasizing the need for long-term recovery.

Ruud was set to compete against Juan Manuel Cerundolo on Tuesday, but Arthur Gea will now take his place. The 27-year-old, a former World No. 2, had reached the fourth round at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros this year, but was eliminated in the first round at Wimbledon.
