Catalyst Science Museum Faces Closure Due to Financial Struggles
The Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum in Widnes, Cheshire, may close within two months if it cannot raise enough funds, as stated by its chief executive, Nikki Burton Mallott.
The museum, which has been operational since 1989 and focuses on the chemical industry, has experienced a decline in visitor numbers and rising operational costs. Mallott noted that ticket sales cover only a small fraction of the museum's expenses, necessitating donations or sponsorships to remain open.
To address its financial challenges, Catalyst is aiming to raise £100,000 to stabilize its finances and plans to open a new gallery by 2027. The museum employs around 30 staff members and relies on approximately 20 volunteers for support.
