Catan Expands Reach Through Sports Partnerships
Catan, a popular board game, is expanding its audience by forming partnerships with various sports teams, including the Minnesota Timberwolves and NFL players like Josh Allen. The game’s publisher, Catan Studios, has set up promotional events at Timberwolves games, distributing portable versions of the game to fans and increasing its visibility in the sports community.
Since its launch in 1995, Catan has sold over 45 million copies worldwide. The game combines strategy and luck, allowing players to build roads and settlements while trading resources. Recently, Catan's brand development director discussed the company's strategy to engage younger audiences through sports, noting that partnerships with athletes have proven effective in raising awareness.
Following the Timberwolves collaboration, Catan is set to partner with the Ottawa Senators in the NHL, planning interactive events and themed giveaways. The goal is to introduce the game to new players, particularly those who may not typically engage with board games, and to foster a community around gaming experiences.
