CBS Negotiates NFL Broadcast Deal Amid Uncertainty

CBS is currently engaged in negotiations with the NFL concerning its broadcast agreement, which is set to run through 2029. The NFL has the option to terminate the contracts early, and CBS's recent change in control has prompted the league to revisit the terms of their deal.

Reports indicate that the NFL may aim to raise CBS's annual fee from $2.1 billion to $3 billion immediately. However, negotiations have reportedly stalled due to legal complications related to CBS's parent company's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. CBS Sports president David Berson confirmed that discussions are ongoing, emphasizing the strong relationship between the two entities.

While the NFL could theoretically end its partnership with CBS, finding another network to take over the Sunday afternoon games poses challenges. The current landscape of broadcast networks complicates the situation, as most already have established game schedules. The delicate nature of these negotiations suggests that any new agreements may not materialize until after the 2026 regular season.
