Cejudo Calls Makhachev's GOAT Status 'Premature'
Henry Cejudo, a former two-division UFC champion, expressed that discussions regarding Islam Makhachev's status as an all-time great are occurring too soon. Makhachev recently achieved his 17th consecutive victory by defeating Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330, surpassing Anderson Silva's record for consecutive UFC wins.
This victory has reignited debates about Makhachev's place among MMA legends. However, Cejudo stated that it is premature to label Makhachev as the greatest of all time, emphasizing that Jon Jones holds that title due to his flawless record in title fights. Cejudo ranked Makhachev fourth, alongside Georges St-Pierre, highlighting the importance of title defenses across different weight classes.
While Makhachev has defended his welterweight title and boasts the longest active win streak in the UFC, Cejudo believes that Makhachev requires several more years of dominance to be considered a serious contender for the top spot. Makhachev's next title defense has yet to be announced, as he has already cleared much of the welterweight division.
