Celebrating Fred McGriff's 63rd Birthday and MLB Quiz
Fred McGriff, a notable figure in Major League Baseball, celebrates his 63rd birthday today. He is recognized as a five-time All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger, and the MVP of the 1994 All-Star Game, as well as a champion of the 1995 World Series.
McGriff was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1981 but made his MLB debut in 1986 with the Toronto Blue Jays. He hit 20 home runs in his rookie season and maintained a remarkable streak of seven consecutive seasons with at least 30 home runs. His career included leading the American League with 36 home runs in 1989 and the National League with 35 in 1992 while playing for the San Diego Padres.
After joining the Atlanta Braves in 1993, McGriff contributed to the team's success, reaching the National League Championship Series in nearly all his seasons there and winning the World Series in 1995. He later played for the Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Dodgers before retiring in 2004 with 493 home runs, 1,550 RBIs, and a .284 batting average. McGriff was inducted into the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023. In celebration of his birthday, a quiz invites fans to name players who have hit at least 400 home runs in their careers.
