Celtic and Rangers Away Fans Barred from Old Firm Matches This Season

The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has declared that away supporters will be prohibited from attending Old Firm matches between Celtic and Rangers during the current Premiership and League Cup seasons. This decision follows incidents of fan violence that occurred after a Scottish Cup match in March.

Initially, both clubs had agreed to an away ticket allocation of five percent for all SPFL games at their respective venues. However, after reviewing the situation and considering the risks, Rangers proposed to offer only 300 tickets instead of the usual 2,500. This proposal was rejected by Celtic, prompting the SPFL to intervene.

Following discussions with both clubs, the SPFL decided to implement a complete ban on away fans for the season. This temporary measure aims to allow time for a thorough review of safety recommendations and to ensure better planning for future matches. The situation will be reassessed if circumstances change during the season, with future arrangements for matches beyond this season to be considered ahead of the 2027/28 season.
