Chad Kelly Becomes First Million-Dollar Player in CFL Salary-Cap Era
Chad Kelly has made history by signing a five-year contract valued at $5.55 million with the Toronto Argonauts, becoming the first player to exceed a million dollars in the Canadian Football League's salary-cap era.
At 32 years old, Kelly was set to enter free agency after the current season. Previously, Nathan Rourke held the title of the CFL's highest-paid player in 2026 with a salary of $684,700, while Kelly was second at $625,000.
After being the last pick in the 2017 NFL draft and experiencing a challenging stint in the NFL, Kelly joined the CFL in 2022, where he has thrived. Despite his success, he has yet to receive an opportunity to transition back to the NFL, where quarterback positions are in high demand.
