Chael Sonnen Discusses Usman Nurmagomedov's Prospects in UFC Lightweight Division

Chael Sonnen has commented on Usman Nurmagomedov's potential entry into the UFC's lightweight division, suggesting that while Nurmagomedov could compete with top fighters, he would not easily dominate the category.

Nurmagomedov recently became a free agent after a first-round knockout victory over Archie Colgan on July 31, retaining his PFL lightweight title. Sonnen anticipates that Nurmagomedov will join the UFC's 155-pound roster, but he emphasizes that the fighter will face tough competition from established names like Paddy Pimblett, Max Holloway, Arman Tsarukyan, and Justin Gaethje.

Sonnen also advised the PFL against overpaying to keep Nurmagomedov, estimating his market value at approximately $500,000. Nurmagomedov's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, revealed that the PFL had made an offer prior to the Colgan fight, but it was rejected after a counter-proposal was deemed fair. The situation remains fluid following the PFL's merger with Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions, leaving Nurmagomedov's future uncertain.
