Charles Leclerc Discusses Challenges with 2026 F1 Regulations
Charles Leclerc has acknowledged that the new 2026 Formula 1 regulations are impacting his driving style, making the Ferrari SF-26 slower when he pushes it to its limits. This admission came during the media day at the Singapore Grand Prix, where he expressed his struggles with the car's performance.
Leclerc, known for his aggressive driving in previous seasons, noted that the heavy reliance on energy management software in the 2026 cars complicates his instinctive driving approach. The regulations require a 50/50 power split between the internal combustion engine and the electrical battery, which leads to the car's systems struggling to adapt when he attempts to drive aggressively.
Despite these challenges, Leclerc is not placing blame on the Ferrari engineering team or the FIA regulations. Instead, he is focusing on optimizing his own performance as the team seeks to improve its standing in the constructors' championship, where they currently trail Mercedes by over 150 points.
