Charles Leclerc Highlights Performance Issues Ahead of F1 Upgrade
Charles Leclerc has noted a critical performance shortfall in Ferrari's 2026 Formula 1 car, indicating that the issue lies in the car's raw performance rather than its setup. This statement comes as Ferrari is set to introduce its most substantial upgrade of the season at the upcoming United States Grand Prix.
Leclerc observed that while Ferrari appears competitive during practice sessions, it tends to lose ground during qualifying compared to its competitors. He attributed this to the engine modes utilized by rival teams, suggesting that Ferrari's performance is not as strong when it matters most.
Despite these challenges, Leclerc expressed confidence in the team's preparation, stating that they arrive at race weekends with a well-balanced car. He acknowledged that while the car's characteristics may not yield additional speed, the team is working on enhancements, including a new floor and sidepods, which could improve performance. Currently, Ferrari ranks second in the constructors' championship with 444 points, trailing Mercedes by 134 points, while Leclerc holds fifth place in the drivers' standings with 215 points.
