Charles Leclerc Tops Practice Session at Mexico City Grand Prix
In the first practice session of the Mexico City Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc of Ferrari achieved the fastest lap, outpacing Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli.
Leclerc's time was 0.659 seconds quicker than Antonelli, who can secure the championship with a ninth-place finish in the race. The only scenarios that could prevent Antonelli from clinching the title involve victories by his teammate George Russell or Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari.
Frederik Vesti, driving in place of Russell, finished third, followed by Hamilton. The session included 10 rookie drivers, with Ayumu Iwasa from Red Bull placing fifth. Other notable performances came from Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso. Freddie Slater faced reliability issues, completing only 14 laps and finishing 19th, while Colton Herta, a potential F1 candidate, was 22nd.
