Charley Steiner Returns to Dodgers Radio After Cancer Battle
Charley Steiner, the longtime radio play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has returned to the airwaves for the team's home playoff games this October, including Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Steiner's comeback follows a challenging battle with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. He had kept his illness private until a public acknowledgment during the 2024 World Series, where Dodgers manager Dave Roberts honored him during a Stand Up to Cancer moment.
After learning that his cancer was in remission late in 2024, Steiner gradually resumed his broadcasting duties, calling his first complete game on August 15. He expressed that this game was the most meaningful event he had ever been part of, marking a significant milestone in his journey back to the booth.
