Charlie Dean to Captain England in ODI Series Against Ireland
Charlie Dean has been appointed as the captain of the England women's cricket team for the upcoming one-day international series against Ireland, scheduled for September. Regular captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, along with other senior players, will be rested for this series.
In addition to Sciver-Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Bell, and Amy Jones will also miss the three-match series due to fitness management. The squad includes two uncapped players, seam bowler Grace Potts and wicketkeeper Kira Chathli, while all-rounder Charis Pavely may make her 50-over debut after participating in T20 matches against Ireland in 2024.
Dean, who has previously captained the London Spirit in The Hundred, has led England in earlier series this summer, achieving victories against New Zealand and India. The team will also be without former captain Heather Knight and opening batter Tammy Beaumont, both of whom retired in July. Head coach Charlotte Edwards emphasized the importance of this series for player development and future selections.
