Chase Elliott Involved in Crash During NASCAR Cup Practice at Iowa

Chase Elliott, a driver for Hendrick Motorsports, crashed during the practice session for the NASCAR Cup at Iowa Speedway on Saturday. The incident occurred with 27 minutes remaining in the 50-minute session when Elliott spun out and hit the wall.

The crash happened after Elliott had completed 30 laps and was running in the second lane through Turns 1 and 2. He reported damage to both the left rear and left front of his No. 9 Chevrolet, which showed visible signs of impact. After the team made repairs, he was able to return to the track and completed another 30 laps, finishing the session in 30th place on the time sheets.

It remains uncertain if the repairs made were considered unapproved adjustments, which could affect his starting position for Sunday's race. Elliott, who finished 11th at Iowa last year, is looking for a turnaround after a streak of eight races without a top ten finish, despite being the only Hendrick driver to win in the 2026 season.
