Chase Sowell's Journey to Penn State Football
Chase Sowell, a wide receiver for Penn State football, has experienced a non-linear journey to join the Nittany Lions. In 2023, he faced uncertainty about his football future.
Sowell's collegiate career included three transfers, starting with his commitment to Colorado, where he had limited success. After a freshman season with only two receptions, he played under coach Deion Sanders, who initiated a roster overhaul that excluded Sowell. This prompted him to enter the transfer portal, leading to a stint at East Carolina, where he achieved two near-700-yard seasons before seeking another opportunity at a Power-4 school.
His transfer to Iowa State allowed him to be closer to family and adapt to the pressures of playing at a major college program. Sowell's experiences have shaped his growth as a player and person. Now at Penn State, he aims to contribute significantly, drawing on the support of teammates and former players, including linebacker Brandon Short, who has helped him feel at home despite his journey.
