Chelsea and Aston Villa Continue Active Transfer Partnership
Chelsea has acquired Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa for £7.5 million, marking the eighth transfer between the two clubs in the last four years. The 33-year-old goalkeeper, who was part of the 2022 World Cup-winning team, has signed a three-year contract with Chelsea.
Martinez previously joined Aston Villa in 2020 and made 256 appearances, contributing to the club's Europa League victory last season. His transfer follows Nicolas Jackson's recent move from Chelsea to Villa, further emphasizing the active trading relationship between the two clubs.
Since the ownership change at Chelsea in 2022, the clubs have exchanged numerous players, with Chelsea spending £163.5 million on Villa players and Villa investing £102.5 million on Chelsea players. The close relationship between Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali and Villa owner Nassef Sawiris has facilitated these transactions, although the frequency of their dealings has drawn attention from other Premier League executives.
