Chelsea and Tottenham Aim for Improvement Without European Distractions
Chelsea and Tottenham are entering the new Premier League season with optimism, having refreshed their squads and without the distractions of midweek European matches. Both clubs experienced disappointing league performances last season but are expected to show significant improvement this time around.
Chelsea has appointed a new manager and made substantial signings, including breaking the British transfer record, while Tottenham is adopting a new playing style under Roberto De Zerbi. Neither team will participate in European competitions due to their poor domestic results last season, which may lead to an increase in their points and league standings.
Historically, teams that have transitioned from European competition to a season without it have often seen improvements in their league performance. Since 2008, 91% of 'big six' clubs have increased their points tally in the following season after not competing in Europe. Chelsea and Tottenham are hoping to replicate this trend, benefiting from fewer matches and more focused training sessions.
