Chelsea Chairman Todd Boehly in Talks to Sell Stake to Clearlake Capital
Significant changes may be on the horizon for Chelsea FC as chairman Todd Boehly reportedly engages in discussions to sell his stake in the club to Clearlake Capital, the majority owner.
According to a report from the Financial Times, Boehly and Mark Walter are considering selling their combined 12.8 percent stakes, with the club's valuation exceeding £5 billion. This potential agreement could alleviate existing tensions within the ownership group that took control in 2022.
Boehly, Walter, and Clearlake, along with Hansjorg Wyss, acquired Chelsea for £2.5 billion in May 2022, committing an additional £1.75 billion for investments. Clearlake currently holds a 61.5 percent stake, while the remaining shares are divided among Walter, Boehly, and Wyss. Previous reports indicated that Clearlake and Boehly might consider buying each other out, and Clearlake has shown willingness to purchase shares from consortium partners.
