Chelsea Football Club Ownership Transitions to Clearlake Capital

Todd Boehly has exited Chelsea Football Club after selling his shares, along with co-owner Mark Walter, to Clearlake Capital, which now has complete control of the Premier League team.

Prior to this transaction, Clearlake owned 61.5% of Chelsea, while Boehly and Walter each held 12.83%. Hansjorg Wyss, a Swiss philanthropist, retains his 12.83% stake in the club. The consortium acquired Chelsea in 2022 for £2.5 billion, with an additional £1.75 billion allocated for future investments following sanctions against former owner Roman Abramovich.

The Financial Times reported that Boehly and Walter will receive £950 million for their stakes, valuing Chelsea at £5 billion, including debt. Boehly will step down as chairman, with the club acknowledging his commitment to ensuring that fans remain central to Chelsea's future.
