Chelsea Football Club Transfers Full Control to Clearlake Capital

Todd Boehly and Mark Walter have divested their stakes in Chelsea Football Club, transferring complete control to Clearlake Capital, a private equity firm.

Clearlake Capital previously owned 61.5% of Chelsea, while Boehly and Walter each held 12.83%. Hansjorg Wyss, a Swiss philanthropist with a similar stake, will continue as part of the ownership group. The consortium acquired Chelsea in 2022 for £2.5 billion, with an additional £1.75 billion pledged for club investments following sanctions on former owner Roman Abramovich.

Reports indicate that Boehly and Walter will receive £950 million for their shares, valuing Chelsea at £5 billion, including debt. Following this transition, Boehly will step down as chairman, with the club acknowledging his commitment to ensuring that supporters remain central to Chelsea's future.
