Chelsea Negotiates to Acquire Defender Honest Ahanor from Atalanta

Chelsea is currently in negotiations to sign Honest Ahanor, an 18-year-old defender from Atalanta, for a fee of £34.3 million. The club's interest in Ahanor was noted after they acquired right-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta in July.

Atalanta previously turned down a £29 million offer from Brighton for Ahanor earlier this summer. The Italian club is open to selling Ahanor if their valuation of 40 million euros is met. Ahanor, primarily a left-back, joined Atalanta from Genoa last summer for a reported fee of 16 million euros, plus additional add-ons.

Last season, Ahanor made 28 appearances in Serie A and debuted in the Champions League against Club Brugge. He was also called up by the Italian national team for friendly matches in May. Chelsea's manager, Xabi Alonso, has been actively enhancing the squad since his appointment in July, including signing midfielder Morgan Rogers for a club record fee.
