Chelsea Signs Emi Martinez from Aston Villa for £7.5m

Chelsea Football Club has finalized the acquisition of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa on a three-year contract valued at £7.5 million. The transfer comes after Martinez was relegated to a backup role at Villa Park due to the arrival of Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

Martinez is expected to become a regular starter for Chelsea. His move follows a period of speculation, particularly after current Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez faced criticism for recent performances. Martinez had also attracted interest from Juventus, who ultimately opted for another player.

During his tenure at Aston Villa, which began in 2020, Martinez played a pivotal role in the team's success, including their UEFA Europa League victory last season. Villa acknowledged his contributions and wished him well as he embarks on this new chapter with Chelsea.
