Chelsea Signs Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano for £16.2 Million
Chelsea has officially signed defender Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano for a transfer fee of £16.2 million. The 28-year-old left-back joins the club as a replacement for Marc Cucurella, who transferred to Real Madrid earlier this summer.
Chavarria has signed a five-year contract following his successful tenure at Rayo Vallecano, where he contributed to the team's consecutive eighth-place finishes in La Liga and their qualification for the previous season's Conference League final. He expressed enthusiasm about joining Chelsea, viewing it as a significant opportunity.
Chavarria becomes the ninth new player added to Chelsea's already large squad, which currently includes 41 players. He will compete for a starting position with Jorrel Hato on the left side of the defense. Chelsea's new manager, Xabi Alonso, has overseen a mixed pre-season, with the team set to face Real Sociedad in their final match before the Premier League season begins.
