Chelsea's Co-Owners Consider Selling Stakes to Clearlake Capital
Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly and director Mark Walter are in discussions about selling their stakes in the club to Clearlake Capital, the majority owner holding a 61.5% stake. This exploration follows a rift within Chelsea's ownership group that became apparent in 2024.
Boehly and Walter each own 12.8% of Chelsea, which they value at £5 billion, suggesting they could receive approximately £640 million each from a potential sale. Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss, who is aligned with Boehly and Walter, also holds a 12.8% stake, though his future involvement remains uncertain.
Despite the ongoing discussions, some sources within Chelsea downplay the rift, noting public appearances of Boehly and Walter together at significant matches. Tensions have also arisen over plans for Stamford Bridge's redevelopment, with differing views on the project's design and scale. Chelsea has not commented on the situation.
