Chester Marathon Set to Welcome 10,000 Runners on October 11

On October 11, approximately 10,000 runners will participate in the MBNA Chester Marathon, which spans 26.2 miles and showcases significant Roman landmarks while crossing the England-Wales border.

This marks the 16th edition of the marathon, which also includes a metric marathon covering 26.2 kilometers. Since its inception in 2010, the event has raised around £20 million for various charities, supported by over 700 volunteers.

The marathon will commence at Chester Racecourse at 09:00 BST, with Olympic champion Dame Denise Lewis starting the race. The route will feature iconic sites such as the Town Hall, Cathedral, and Eastgate Clock, before moving through the scenic Cheshire and Welsh countryside. Road closures will be implemented, but access to Chester city center will remain available via specific routes.
