Chester Pumpkin Carver Gains Popularity for Terrifying Portraits
Jamie Jones, a 42-year-old pumpkin carver from Capenhurst, Chester, has gained viral fame for his portraits of figures he finds terrifying, including Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Jones, who has been carving pumpkins for 12 years, creates three-dimensional designs by shaving layers off the pumpkin's surface.
Despite his full-time job in events and media sales, Jones has established a successful side business, Pumpkin Freak, which he launched in 2020. His work has earned him between £10,000 and £20,000 annually, with each piece taking six to 20 hours to complete. This year, he opted to focus on personal projects rather than paid commissions, allowing him to experiment with characters like Michael Myers and Uncle Fester.
Jones has also embraced technology, using artificial intelligence to enhance his carving process by creating stencils more efficiently. His creations are displayed on his front lawn, attracting local admirers, and he actively involves his daughters in the carving process, nurturing their interest in the craft.
