Cheteshwar Pujara Advises Manav Suthar to Focus on Test Cricket
Following Manav Suthar's remarkable performances in Test cricket, Cheteshwar Pujara has advised the young spinner to concentrate on his development in the longer format rather than seeking an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract. Suthar, who has played only two Tests, has already made a significant impact, including a five-wicket haul on debut and a ten-wicket match-winning performance in Galle.
In the first Test against Sri Lanka, Suthar took six wickets in the second innings, contributing to India's 165-run victory and giving them a 1-0 lead in the series. Pujara emphasized the importance of preserving Suthar's skills as a red-ball specialist, suggesting that while opportunities in the IPL are valuable, they should not come at the cost of his Test cricket strengths.
Pujara noted that Suthar's natural ability to flight the ball is crucial for his success in Test matches. He acknowledged that while Suthar could adapt his bowling for white-ball formats, he should not compromise the qualities that make him effective in Tests. Currently, Suthar is contracted with the Gujarat Titans in the IPL but has had limited exposure in the tournament.
