Chicago Bears Left Tackle Competition Heats Up
The Chicago Bears are seeking clarity at the left tackle position as they move into the second week of preseason. During their recent game against the Cleveland Browns, Kiran Amegadjie, a former third-round draft pick, started alongside Jedrick Wills Jr., a former first-round pick from the Browns.
In the game, Wills allowed a notable sack to Julian Okwara, but overall, he appeared more consistent than Amegadjie. Analysts noted that neither player demonstrated the capability to be a starting left tackle. Following the game, it was suggested that Amegadjie should be removed from the competition, allowing the Bears to focus on Braxton Jones, who returned to practice and took most first-team reps.
With Ozzy Trapilo also returning to practice, the Bears aim to evaluate their top tackle options during upcoming joint practices and preseason games. The competition now seems to be between Wills and Amegadjie for a practice squad spot, with a recommendation to keep Jones, Trapilo, and Theo Benedet on the roster while considering a trade for Amegadjie.
