Chicago Bears Release Running Back Coleman Bennett After NFL Debut
The Chicago Bears have waived 23-year-old running back Coleman Bennett, terminating his contract shortly after his NFL debut. This decision is part of a series of roster adjustments that also included the signing of veteran players Marcus Davenport and Deantre Prince.
Bennett, who signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent in May, had a three-year contract worth $3.12 million, which included $145,000 in guarantees. He joined a crowded backfield that featured D’Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai, and Roschon Johnson.
During his college career, Bennett played at Bucknell, Rice, and Kennesaw State, where he excelled as a rusher and receiver. He had limited action in the Bears' preseason opener, where he scored a touchdown but did not stand out in training camp. His release opens up space on the Bears' roster as they finalize their 53-man lineup ahead of the season.
